Veerabhadra Swami Temple,Lepakshi - A Unknown mystery of an hanging Pillar,a 3 feet long footprint on stone
This Veera Bhadra Swami Temple, well known for its hanging pillar,3 Feet footprint( believeed to be of Lord Hanuman) which is located at Lepakshi Village,Andhra Pradesh, India .
Actually this temple has around 70 pillars which are supporting the roof.However One corner Pillar in the Hall Does not rest on the ground.
In 1910 C.E. A British Engineer Tried to uncover the secret of the Hanging Pillar.But, he managed to make a corner of the pillar Touch the Ground.
But this made the ceiling to Misalign and distorted the "FRESCO PAINTINGS".
This temple is located at Ananthapur district of Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.The architectural features of the temple are in the Vijayanagara style with profusion of carvings and Paintings at almost every exposed surface of the temple.
It is One of the centrally protected Monuments of national importance. The Fresco paintings are particularly detailed in very bright dresses and colours with scenes of Lord Rama and krishna from the Epic stories of Ramayana ,Mahabharatam and Puranas(SCRIPTS).The images on the pillars and walls are of divine beings ,saints, guardians, musicians, dancers and 14 avatars of Lord Shiva.
There is a very large Nandu(bull),mount of shiva ,about 200 metres(660 ft.) away from the temple which is carved from a single block of stone ,which is said to be one of largest of its type in the world.
The Temple has been built on the southern side of Lepakshi town ,on a low altitude hillock of a large exposure of granite rock, which is in the shape of a tortoise and hence called as "Kurma saila".
It is 140 km away from Bangalore.
Within temple precincts,to its eastern side ,there is huge boulder of Granite stone which has carving of coiled multi hooded SERPENT providing an umbrella cover over a Linga.
And there is a Giant footprint in stone near temple premises.It is said to beof Lord Hanuman.
This Footprint is 3 feet Long. A Trickle of water flows into it from Underground keeping it wet.
